Ryton® PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide) has a high-temperature resistance, chemical resistance, flowability, and dimensional stability. Ryton® is a great choice when you need dimensional stability for precision-molded components. It is inherently flame retardant and offers chemical resistance comparable to PEEK and fluoropolymers.

Ryton® PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide)

Ryton® PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide) is an engineered, high-performance, moldable thermoplastic with exceptional characteristics and well-balanced properties that fit a wide range of applications. Ryton has high temperature resistance, chemical resistance, flowability and dimensional stability. Its chemical resistance is comparable to PEEK and fluoropolymers. It also is inherently flame retardant. These properties make Ryton an excellent choice for precision-molded components for applications in the electronics, automotive, aerospace, and chemical industries.

Ryton® has highly stable chemical bonds and is a semi-crystalline material, giving it a high melting point of about 285° C (545° F). The high-temperature resistance of Ryton® plastic gives this material long-term resistance to temperatures up to 200°C (392° F) and short-term resistance to temperatures up to 260°C (500°F).

Ryton® plastic maintains dimensional stability at elevated temperatures and in harsh chemical environments. Its dimensional stability allows for molding of complex parts within tight tolerances.

Ryton® PPS also has low water absorption and is chemically inert to common solvents below 200° C (392° F). This property makes Ryton® stable in corrosive environments, and in applications involving both typical and alternative automotive fuels and associated petrochemicals.

The molecular structure of Ryton® PPS polymer makes it flame retardant, causing at most, charring during combustion. Many other types of engineered plastics require additives to achieve a similar level of flame retardance, and to reach UL 94 V-0 classification.
